Dr S. Pert

Dr S. Pert is a senior lecturer and highly specialist speech and language therapist. Dr Pert is registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (http://www.hpc-uk.org) and is a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (MRCSLT http://www.rcslt.org). Dr Pert has more than twenty years clinical experience and has a special interest in speech and language disorders and bilingualism.

Dr Pert is a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and his roles include:

  • Clinical adviser for bilingualism and speech and language disorders
  • Digital Strategy Oversight Committee

Education

Dr Pert was awarded a Bachelor of Science (First Class Hons), at Manchester Metropolitan University in 1995. Dr Pert has produced several published works including research papers, speech and language therapy assessments and book chapters. Dr Pert completed his doctoral studies with Newcastle University in May 2007. Dr Pert also has a PGDip in Leading and Managing in Healthcare Organisations from Salford University (2011).

NHS Diversity case study

Dr Pert took part in a National Health Service diversity case study as an openly gay man working in the NHS. Speech and language therapy in the UK is a profession dominated by women. This unusual demographic is historical. The profession is hoping to recruit more men, people from minority ethnic heritage and people of different sexuality to more accurately reflect the population which we serve.

Awards

In 2012, with Dr C. McKean and Dr C. Stow, Dr Pert won the Sternberg Clinical Innovation Award for work developing the BEST language therapy programme.
In 2005, with Dr C. Stow, Dr Pert won the Sternberg Clinical Innovation Award for work developing
assessment tools to be used with Pakistani heritage children.
